One final installment in the continuing saga of Google's new tracking policy. As stated, I downloaded Do Not Track Plus as did several regular readers. The software provides a button which shows just how many ad networks, companies or social sites are tracking the users visit to each website and gives you their names. Here is a list of those tracking me (and blocked) on one typical browsing day, visiting the sites I would normally visit in the course of a day.
Google Analytics
Facebook (124 sites blocked on each visit)
Dedicated Networks
Doubleclick
Eloqua
Webtrends
Microsoft Atlas
Microsoft Atlas Technology
Omniture

Tuet
Google Adsense
Google Web Optimizer
Criteo
Google Friend Connect

Kontera ContentLink
Until I saw this list on paper I had assumed a "so what" stance on web tracking. When I see how many places are tracking my web browsing and gathering information about me, it starts to look a lot more sinister.

On your advise I downloaded 'Do Not Track Plus', however I did not realize they furnished names of those tracking until I read you here and as with you, there's a bunch of them, all to make a buck. Makes you realize the extent people will go to mine information. It's not that we write or say anything important in this endeavor but they track the sand from our travels searching for that fleck of gold. Sinister yet interesting.
Big brother is not only watching---he is taking an active role. This list is scary.
Jesus, and here I thought that ESPN's coverage of Tim Tenor was overkill.
I feel so dirty...damn wish they'd hurry on the beta for IE.
